Diana DeVusser, FounderDiana's Dance Academy was founded in 1969 by Diana DeVusser.  

"Miss Diana" packed away her dance shoes in May 2016 and although Miss Diana no longer teaches or is a part of the everyday operation of the academy she enjoys hearing about the students and attending any perfomances the students do throughout the year.
She continues to be a member of the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce, Project Care, and other local community organizations.  Her tireless efforts for her community are just part of her energy and zest for life.

Connie DeVusser, Owner/Director

 

Connie Moore, DirectorConnie DeVusser began dancing at age 4.  She always enjoyed performing but realized that her strongest desire was to teach and share her love of dance.  

In 1980, "Miss Connie" began teaching at Diana's Dance Academy; and since 1995 has combined both teaching and managing the academy. In June 2016 Connie became owner of Diana's Dance Academy.

Miss Connie's credentials include the following:

  • Certified Instructor of Dance Masters of America Inc.(DMA); member since 1987
  • Member of Carolina Dance Masters(CDM) Chapter 15
  • Currently on the CDM Board of Directors
  • Certified examiner for CDM
  • Successful certificates of completion from the Ballet and Jazz exams through
  • CDM Chapter 15 and DMA Teachers Training School, completing Grades I, II, III, IV.
  • A recipient of several choreography awards

"Miss Connie" has also been honored by her students as they have won numerous competitions.  Her students have performed with the Ballet for Young Audiences dance company in the productions of Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty, Jungle Book, and Pirates.
 

Meet Our Staff

Marissa Ransom

Marissa received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance from Valdosta State University.  Marissa is trained and experienced in ballet, jazz, contemporary and modern.  In college her focus was in jazz, contemporary and modern.

While attending Valdosta State University she performed in Spirit of Dance in America, Pulse, Fresh Tracks and the 25th Anniversary Dance Concert.  She has also performed in White Wave Professional Dance Festival, New Grounds Dance Festival and Fringe Professional Dance Festival. This is Marissa's second year with Diana's.

 

Mendy Bailey

Mendy has her Master of Art in Education and grew up dancing in Miss Marion's School of Dance in Spartanburg, South Carolina.  Mendy is trained in tap, hip hop, ballet and jazz.  She was a member and dancer for the Ballet of Spartanburg and was Principal dancer and had several lead parts in the Nutcracker for over 10 years.  Mendy was a singer/dancer at Dollywood, a dancer at the Carolina Opry in Myrtle Beach as well as a performer at the World's Fair in New Orleans.  She was South Carolina's Little Miss Talent as well as winning a variety of other talent and dance competitions in South and North Carolina.  Mendy has attended numerous dance competitions and conventions in Myrtle Beach, Columbia, Charlotte, Atlanta and New York and has taken master classes at Broadway Dance Center from Eddi Mekka, Frank Hatchett and the legendary Gregory Hines.  Mendy has taught numerous classes throughout her career and was on staff at Diana's in 2006 and returned to our staff in 2014. 

Mendy resides in Jacksonville with her husband Tim Bailey and daughter Suzette who is currently now a lttle dancer at Diana's Dance Academy.

 

Veronica Welch

Veronica is a native of Onslow County and began dancing at age 6.  She is the mother of two children, one of which graduated from ECU with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Dance Performance.  For over 20 years, Veronica has trained dancers of all levels in Jazz, Lyrical, Contemporary, Hip Hop, Ballet, Modern, Preschool, Tap/Ballet, Acrobatics and Character Production.  Her students have been accepted at numerous prestigous schools throughout the country for summer intensive studies.  She is certified through Carolina Dance Masters and Dance Masters of America.  Her choreography and comeptition teams, soloist, duets and trios have won numerous awards.  She has choreographed for the MGM Performing Arts Troupe, The Power Pack Dance Team, The Nutcracker Ballet, The Crystal Coast Jamboree, Worthy Is The Lamb Passion Play, West Carteret Marching Band's Christmas Extravaganza Show, East Carteret Marching Mariners' Colorguard performances and Winterguard Show, East Carteret Show Choir, as well as, recital and competition pieces at various local studios.  Veronica believes dance requires hard work and discipline but, above all, it should be FUN!
